Money contributed to Operation Round Up (ORU) is administered by a tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation called the Minnesota Valley Electric Trust.
The Trust is a separate organization from MVEC and is governed by a nine-person, volunteer Board of Directors.
Contributions will generally be made to 501(c)3 organizations whose activities benefit members of the MVEC service area in the following categories:
- Community service

MVEC has awarded local, charitable organizations over $1 million in grants since its inception in 1995.

Contributions are generally not made for:
- Lobbying, political and religious organizations
- Veteran, fraternal and labor organizations
- Fundraising dinners, raffles, events
- National fund drives
