Double Meter Socket
All homes built within MVEC’s service area after 1992 have a double meter socket on the house. Why? So members can enjoy Energy Wise programs which allow them to save 10-57% off their electric rates.

How does Energy Wise work?
An energy management control is installed. This allows MVEC to turn off the members AC compressor, electric water heater or electric heat during periods of peak energy use. These instances are occasional and the duration is typically unnoticeable. During this time MVEC saves money on wholesale power costs – which in turn allows the cooperative to pass on these savings to our member-owners.

For participating in Energy Wise programs members receive bill credits and/or reduced electric rates. The following products qualify for Energy Wise programs:
  • Air conditioners
  • Electric garage heaters
  • Electric water heaters
  • Electric space heating
  • Heat pumps
