Energy Wise heating: no control anticipated
Interruptable water heating: 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
(Updated 03/11/10 at 11:33 a.m.) Control times are
subject to change as weather conditions and other variables affecting
the load cha nge.
All times are approximate .
What is load control?
Load control is associated with MVEC’s Energy Wise Programs. This is a program by which MVEC controls its members’ use of electricity (or “loads”) so it can reduce the system’s total demand at a time of maximum (“peak”) usage.
Load control has many variables:
- MVEC does not initiate load control based on temperature; it’s based on electrical load and peak energy demand at that time.
- It may also be influenced by the availability and price of electric energy in the wholesale marketplace.
- The monthly target peak is based on the previous year and forecasted weather conditions for the current month.
- The peak period can vary due to different circumstances (i.e. heat, cold, humidity, wind, lighting, etc.).
- Regardless of temperature, if the demand forecasts that our loads will be exceeding our target peak we begin to control so we are not purchasing electricity on the open market. This keeps costs down and helps keep rates lower for everyone.
