How does Pay as you Go work?
Think of it just like putting gasoline in your car: you fill up your tank, and, on a daily basis, you use up some of the gasoline. The Pay as you Go (PayGO) program allows you to put dollars in your PayGO account. As you use electricity during the week and/or month, the balance in your account will decrease.

Why participate?

  • Information: With PayGO you have more information about your energy usage. You’ll learn how much you use each day and see trends over time.
  • Control: You are in control of when you pay for electricity. Pay weekly, monthly and any day or time you choose.
  • Conservation: Knowing how much you are spending on electricity leads to lower use – studies indicate between 10 and 12%! You may even find yourself pinching that last penny on the account to make it last as long as possible.

Does Pay as you Go cost me anything?
No. There are no additional charges for participating.  However, the potential upside is lower electric costs if you are able to use the daily feedback to change your electric usage.

When you sign up for Pay as you Go, MVEC has to account for the electricity you’ve used since your last regular billing. This usage can either be paid in full at the time of your account transfer or paid over time.  If you choose to pay it over time, 50% of each payment you make will be applied to that outstanding usage.  Once paid in full, 100% of your payments will be applied toward future electricity.

How do I view my PayGo account activity (daily usage, recent payment etc.)?

    • Once signed in, click on the Account List/Pay Bill link on the left side of the screen. Click on the Prepaid Account Info link to view your account activity.

How do I know how much is left in my account?

Check the balance of your account any time with one of the methods listed below:

  • Call our automated phone system at 952.492.8333 or  866-492-8333
  • Sign in to MVEC’s Click-n-Pay site
    • Once signed in, click on the Account List/Pay Bill link on the left side of the screen.  Your balance will then show under Balance.

How do I purchase credit for my account?

  • Call our automated phone system at 952.492.8333 or 866-492-8333 and choose Option 2
  • Sign on to Click-n-Pay
  • Call MVEC and ask to speak with a member service representative at 952.492.2313 or 800.282.6832
  • Set up a bill pay account with your bank – many banks now offer this at no charge

How is my daily bill calculated?
Each day your meter is read at midnight. The reading tells us how much electricity you used in the previous 24 hours. Your bill is then calculated for that day. The bill includes electricity used for that day, part of the monthly service charge and any taxes and/or city fees.

How will I know when my balance is low?

  • Your low-balance threshold is set at $15 – which normally provides three days of electricity.
  • You will receive an email or text alert indicating your account is below a pre-set threshold.
  • You will receive an automated courtesy phone call when your balance goes below $15. It is your responsibility to notify MVEC if your phone number changes.
  • If you have an In-Home Display, it will beep, and a light will illuminate if you fall below a pre-set threshold.

Can I change my low balance threshold?
Yes. If you wish to adjust that threshold up or down, please contact MVEC, and we’ll adjust it for you. Call 952.492.2313 or 800.282.6832.

What will happen if I run out of funds in my PayGO account?
Similar to a car running out of gasoline, electricity will stop flowing to your home if your balance goes below zero. However, a disconnection will only occur during MVEC business hours (8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m) and will not occur on weekends or holidays. If you find yourself disconnected, simply make a payment and your electric service will be restored in approximately 15 minutes. Please note: payment made between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. will not post until 7 a.m. This means your power will not be restored until around 7:15 a.m. Pay as you Go Protection Form.
