Just like a person needs a thorough medical exam before a doctor writes a prescription, a home needs a good inspection before energy inefficiencies can be corrected.
MVEC members can receive a home energy assessment from our certified residential energy auditor.
Members who have the best opportunity for energy savings:
- have homes built before 1997
- heat their homes with LP or fuel oil
- do not already participate in Energy Wise programs
If your home meets that criteria, the energy auditor will:
- evaluate lighting, heating, cooling and efficiency factors
- provide recommendations for improvements
- give participants a free energy conservation kit
Please note: the assessment is not a safety inspection of your electric system or heating system. Blower door or infrared testing is not available.
If your home was built after 1997, and you still wish to learn about energy savings and lowering your electric bill, you may order a free Energy Savings booklet. Or you can sign up for a free Energy Check account, where you can monitor your daily, weekly and monthly energy usage from the comfort of your own computer.
