Product Update
Since April 2011, Water Heater Innovations no longer includes the 3-inch brass extension fitting (see top of water heater) on Marathon residential water heaters and thermal storage tanks.
Marathon released the following statement: “We found that many 3-inch brass extension fittings were removed from the water heater and discarded. We also found a direct connection to the union on the water heater was quicker.”
In place of the 3-inch brass extension, there will now be a plastic cap, which needs to be removed prior to connection. Pipe sealant should not be applied because a rubber seal ring is now used to make the connection.
