Key Benefits
- No fees or deposits – just pay for what you use.
- Smaller, more frequent payments – daily or weekly instead of one large monthly bill.
- Lower energy use – many members become more aware of usage and reduce consumption.
- No surprise bills – track your usage and avoid unexpected charges.

How It Works
- Add funds to your MVEC account.
- Use electricity – your balance decreases automatically.

- Refill anytime to avoid service interruption.
If your balance hits $0, you’ll receive daily calls and a letter from MVEC. Service may be interrupted unless a payment is made.

Budget Billing
Budget Billing – Predictable Monthly Payments
Budget Billing helps you manage your energy costs with a consistent monthly payment—no surprises, no seasonal spikes. While it’s not a discount program and doesn’t reduce your overall energy costs, it makes budgeting easier by spreading your payments evenly throughout the year. It’s free to join, and there are no fees or deposits.
How It Works
- MVEC calculates your monthly payment based on your past 12 months of usage.
- You’ll pay the same amount each month, even if your energy use changes.
- Your bill will still show your actual usage and cost, so you can track your energy habits.
- MVEC reviews your account twice a year (June and December) and may adjust your payment based on usage or rate changes. See our video on the calculation process
Eligibility
To enroll, you must:
- Be an MVEC member for at least 6 months at your current location.
- Have a current account with no past-due balance.
- Be a residential member.
If You Cancel or Move
When you cancel Budget Billing or close your account:
- MVEC will compare what you paid vs. your actual usage.
- If you overpaid, the difference will be credited to your next or final bill.
- If you underpaid, the difference will be added to your next or final bill.
Delinquent Accounts
If your account becomes 60 days past due, you’ll be removed from Budget Billing and must pay the full outstanding balance.
To rejoin, you’ll need to either:
- Enroll in Automatic Bill Pay or Recurring Credit Card payments
- Maintain 12 months of on-time payments
