Board Candidate Information

The deadline to file for the MVEC Board of Directors is open November 1, 2026 through January 26, 2027.

There are three open positions in the 2027 Board of Directors election. 

  • In District 1, one open position for the seat currently held by Michael Lins.
  • In District 2, one open position for the seat currently held by Brent Lawrence.
  • In District 3, one open position for the seat currently held by Kevin Gibbs.

Certain qualifications to be eligible to become and remain a Director are set forth in MVEC Bylaws. In addition, statutory and common laws impose certain duties upon Directors. The following questions are designed to ensure you are eligible to be a candidate for Director and to remain a Director if elected.

MVEC Bylaws require that candidates be nominated. Since MVEC has discontinued the Nominating Committee process, the candidate may self nominate.*
Bona fide residents shall be defined as residing at and continuously and materially purchasing electric service at a location within any director district from which the director is elected, or for which he or she is a candidate, for at least nine months each calendar year.

A Director is responsible for, and must actively participate in, oversight of the management of the business and affairs of MVEC. The MVEC Board of Directors is quite active; it is anticipated you will spend approximately 15-25 days annually at meetings of the Board of Directors, general membership, committees, and other organizations. The vast majority of the meetings occur during day time hours Monday through Friday in person at MVEC headquarters in Jordan, MN. Unless excused for good cause by the board, a director who is absent from three or more regular meetings of the Board of Directors during any calendar year, may not qualify to remain a director.

A “close relative” as stated in the Bylaws is a person who is by blood, law, or marriage (including half, step, foster, and adoptive relations) a child, grandchild, parent, grandparent, or sibling; or is a spouse or resides in the same residence
