Each year, MVEC awards 15 $1,000 scholarships to area high school seniors. In 2018, six additional scholarships will be available for a total of 21.
- Applicants must be a graduating high school senior whose parents or legal guardians are MVEC members.
- Students attending public, private, parochial or home school are eligible to apply.
- Scholarships are randomly selected, evenly per MVEC district.
- The 2018 deadline to apply was Feb. 19. The application process is now closed. Information for the 2019 scholarships will be posted in December.
The money for the scholarships is funded through MVEC’s Unclaimed Capital Credits. This is money that would otherwise be claimed by the state of Minnesota.
Basin Power Electric Cooperative, one of MVEC’s wholesale power providers, also awards a $1,000 scholarship to an MVEC member-student. This scholarship recognizes academic and community achievements and includes an essay question and teacher/counselor recommendation.
The 2018 Basin Scholarship deadline was Feb. 19. Applications were sent to Basin Electric for the selection process. The application process is now closed. Information for the 2019 scholarship will be posted in December.
