Energy Wise Program Benefits

Receive a bill credit or reduced electric rates (10-50% lower) by voluntarily having your energy load controlled.
By avoiding peak use periods, MVEC does not have to pay premium prices when purchasing power from its wholesale power providers. It’s a win-win for everyone. Members save with lower rates and/or bill credits and MVEC can help reduce its wholesale electric bill.
Rebates are also available for Energy Wise installations on various electric products.

Residential Energy Wise Programs

Rate savings are available for cooling, heating and water heating products outlined below.
Programs can be separate or combined. Members are ready to be wired into a metered program if their home (built after 1992) has a double meter socket. Homes built before 1992 can have a second meter socket installed to participate in Energy Wise programs.

Participation in the Energy Wise water heating program works best if you have the correct size water heater for your home and family size. Confirm your agreement with the Water Heater Sizing Policy.

Energy Wise Metered Electric Water Heating
Savings: Half priced electric rates!
Reduce energy costs associated with running an electric water heater

An energy management switch is installed by an electrician (at your expense), and your electric water heater will be cycled only when there are peak electricity usage times.
Electric water heaters are separately metered from the rest of the household usage.
50-gallon water heaters do not qualify for this program.

Heating Programs

Energy Wise Metered Electric Heating
Savings: Half priced electric rates!
Warm those hard-to-heat areas with electric heat. This Energy Wise program is for any type of permanently-wired electric heating system.

Heating options: Baseboard heaters, cove heaters, electric thermal storage, fan forced heaters, garage heaters, heat pumps, in-floor heating, plenum heaters and water heaters.
All electric heating products (including water heaters) are switched to a backup heat source during peak electricity usage times.
All wiring and installation costs vary and are the member’s responsibility. Installation is available through MVEC’s network of local electricians. A wiring affidavit is required before MVEC can install the Energy Wise meter.

Combination Programs
Savings: Half priced electric rates!
Energy Wise programs can be combined and are open to all metered electric water heating, space and dual fuel (offers two sources of heat with electricity being the primary heat source) heating programs in combination with an air conditioner or heat pump control. Program details include:

Available for heat pumps on a stand-alone basis (not available for air conditioners as a stand-alone).
All electric heating products (including water heaters) are controlled during peak electricity usage times.
