FAQs for Tesla owner reauthentication request

MVEC members who own or lease electric vehicles and charge at home on MVEC’s EV24 program are invited to participate in a data research pilot to help us learn more about charging habits. This study is voluntary, and the information will be used solely to help us determine future electric vehicle programs and benefits.

Pilot timeline: The pilot began in October 2023 and is anticipated to conclude in November 2024.

FlexCharging purpose: To reduce costs for EV owners, decrease energy loads on utilities, and lower carbon emissions for the environment.

Incentive! An additional $50 bill credit (beyond the initial $100 credit) will be given to current participants who continue the pilot through November 2024.

Top 10 EV Driver Questions

Q. Will participation in the FlexCharging program affect my current rate or other MVEC program?
A. No. The study is just for gathering charging data. Your EV24 rate and other Energy Wise metered programs will not be affected. The results of the pilot may lead to developing enhanced co-op EV programs.

Q. Does my EV qualify?
A. Many of the popular makes and models are compatible with FlexCharging, and we continue to add makes and models. See the current list of supported vehicles. (PDF)

Q. What do you mean by OEM account or app?
A. OEM original equipment manufacturer is the manufacturer of your car (e.g. Tesla, Chevrolet, Ford) and each has its own way of communicating with the car. This can often be called a connected services app. To connect your car to the FlexCharging program, you will need your login credentials for the service from your manufacturer.

Q. What if I do not know my login for my car’s online account with my manufacturer?
A. You will need to request/reset your account information with your manufacturer to obtain the correct information. This is needed to connect your car to FlexCharging.

Q. How do I add another car?
A. In EVision, once you are in your Dashboard, click “Add Vehicle+” at the bottom, and you will be prompted to select your vehicle and add your login credentials.

Q. How do I delete my car?
A. In EVision, once you are in your Dashboard, click the red outlined X next to your vehicle, and you will be prompted to confirm you want to delete the selected vehicle.

Q. Why should I define a charging location?
A. Charging locations are defined to help MVEC and FlexCharging only look at charging habits that happen at home.

Q. Is my information secure?

Q. What is in it for MVEC?
A. We utilize your car’s existing API to:

Help you meet MVEC’s rate schedule and save you money (if you enable this feature).
Comply with the charging preferences you manually set up in our app.
Provide anonymized information to your utility about driving data so they can plan new grid infrastructure and optimize new charging locations for electric vehicles.

Q. What is in it for utilities, regulators, and other energy and sustainability organizations?

Plan for the massive influx of EVs onto the grid in the next decade by automating smart charging, costs can be lowered by better utilizing existing equipment during idle periods rather than paying for costly distribution system upgrades.
